However, by 1906, it appears as if Harry has deserted Mary Ann and their five children Harry, John Joseph, Ellen Mary, Eliza and Edwin Binney (Fowler). They are admitted, on the 31 August 1907 to the St. Pancras Workhouse, at the west side of King's Road (now St Pancras Way), in Saint Pancras, London Borough of Camden, Middlesex & London, England. Her brother, John (Cooke) was given as her next of kin and his address was recorded as being at 26 Britannia Street, Kings Cross, north London, England[7].

We then find John enlisting in the British Army for the duration of the Great War. He enlists in the Royal Army Service Corps and is given the Service number of 2491. His discharge takes place on the 5 March 1916 and John is awarded both the British War Medal and Victory Medal in 1919 for his service [12].
The Census of 1921 records John's occupation as being a Carman or Horsekeeper at Messrs Pickfords Ltd, Cartage & Contractors, High Street, Poplar, Middlesex & London, England. However, by 1939, he is employed as a General Post Office Cleaner.
It is unclear when, and where, John Joseph (Fowler) passes away, however, there is a John J (Fowler) who dies between July and September 1943 in the District of Essex South Western, in Essex, England. He was 49 years old at the time and the cause of death will be on his Certificate[13]. More research is needed to verify if this is our John Joseph (Fowler).
