I will remove George Fowler [Fowler-6557] as a son of Henry [Fowler-5154] & Rebecca [Newell-130] Fowler. Here is my reasoning:
George Fowler [Fowler-6557] is not a son of Henry [Fowler-5154] & Rebecca [Newell-130] Fowler. This mistaken information was published (and cited on this wikitree page) in: Wharton Dickinson, Genealogy of the Fowlers In England and America, Appendix A: page 40. This mistake has been pointed out in The New York Genealogical & Biographical Record (NYG&BR) (vol. 58, no. 3, pp. 257 & 264). The NYG&BR discusses the “many published errors regarding Henry1 Fowler, and the most serious ones are in prominent publications dating back many years.”
In particular, footnote ‘a’, on p. 264, discusses that there were two William Fowlers of Flushing, Long Island, and that Dickinson gives “William Fowler, [the] weaver … was brother to George Fowler of Hempstead.”, as a son of Henry [Fowler-5154]. So, this mistake caused Dickinson to list George as a son of Henry as well.
The reason for Dickinson’s error is that William2 [Fowler-423], the actual son of Henry [Fowler-5154], stayed and died in Flushing (on Long Island), while William (the weaver) eventually settled in Eastchester (Westchester County, NY), were many of Henry Fowler’s descendants had settled.
