And this is a great great granddaughters obituary West Pelzer – Thelma Louise Ellis Durham of 12 Spring Street, West Pelzer, widow of Eddie “Boots” Durham, Jr., passed away Friday, March 15, 2019.

She was born December 10, 1923 to the late Samuel and Eva Ellis.

Thelma was always active in her community. She was the owner of Boots and Thelma’s Restaurant in West Pelzer where she and her husband, “Boots” worked together for over 50 years. She served many years as chairman of the Mothers March of Dimes and was a charter member of West Pelzer Baptist Church. She assisted the Pelzer-Williamston Jaycees in the original Christmas lighting of the Williamston Spring Park. For 25 years she was known as the Santa Claus lady and was a member of the auxiliary of the West Pelzer Fire Department and the Cross Hill Fire Department. Thelma worked as a reporter for the Greenville News, Anderson Independent and The Journal newspapers.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Patricia D. Chandler; brother, Marvin Ellis; granddaughters, Debra Rainey and Kimberly Durham; great-grandchildren, Katie Garner, Morgan Vickery, and Georgia Cape; and great-great-grandchildren, Brooklynn Duso, Baylee Vickery and Lainey Davis.

She was predeceased by her son, J. D. Durham; brothers, Dennis, Jim, Louie, Charles, and an infant boy; sisters, Ruth Ellis, Grace Ellis, VeEtta Corbin, and Edna Hendricks; and grandson, Eddie Albert Durham, III.

Visitation will be held Monday, March 18, from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary with the service to follow at 2:00 in the mortuary chapel. Burial will be private.

The family will be at the home of Pat Chandler, 14 Dacus Drive, Williamston, SC.

Memorials may be made to the Shriners Children Hospital, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605 or to West Pelzer Baptist Church, 29 Main Street, West Pelzer, SC 29669.
