Stan was born on 23 February 1890 at Manaia.[1] He went to school at Aramoho Primary then Wanganui District High where he was a member of the school council and played rugby for the school.

After leaving school he became a cadet in the Post Office starting as a post boy delivering twice a day through slots in doors like in England. After further training in Wellington Stan returned to Wanganui as a clerk in the Chief Post Office.
On 16 July 1917 Stan married Ruby Gladys Marsh at St Luke's church in Rotorua. In the 1920's they moved to Dannevirke for Stan's work.
Next they moved to Rotorua then travelled extensively.
After Ruby's death Stan stayed in Rotorua but visited his son Ian in Britain in the late 1960's.
Stan died suddenly at home aged 84 on 22 June 1974 and was cremated at Rotorua cemetery.[2]
