Nathaniel Fowlkes, son of Thompson B. Fowlkes and Elizabeth Robertson Fowlkes, was born 22 October 1778 in Virginia, possibly in Mecklenburg County.[1]
He married Ann Osborne Barnes, daughter of Francis and Ann Osborne, 26 October 1801 in Charlotte County, Virginia.[2]
On 20 August 1810, he served as surety for the marriage of Stephen Roberts to Martha Gregory in Mecklenburg County, Virginia.[3] He served as surety for his sister Elizabeth's marriage bond to Matthias Petty on 24 December 1814.[4]
It is uncertain when Ann died, but he married Lucy Wynn in Mecklenburg County 4 July 1816.[5]
May 11, 1820, Ann’s father, Francis Barnes, names granddaughter Polly Goode Fowlkes in his will.[6]
It is uncertain when he moved to Tennessee, but Nathaniel purchased an additional four acres on the south side of Mill Creek in Hickman County on 11 July 1831.[7] He appears on the 1836 tax list for Hickman County with 80 acres of land, The value was $400, and the tax was 60 cents. He had 201 1/2 school acres, valued at $100 and taxed at 15 cents. He owed 25 cents in state taxes with a total of 75 cents in county and state taxes.[8]
