Biography

Mary was born in 1842 near Lewisburg in Greenbrier County, Virginia (present-day West Virginia). She was the daughter of George Fox and Elizabeth Burgess. Her family had settled in Harrison County, Virginia (also in present-day West Virginia) by 1850. She married Franklin Fitz Randolph in New Milton in neighboring Doddridge County in 1861. She joined Franklin to farm in New Milton and had seven children together. Mary died of heart failure in 1921 in New Milton. She is buried together with her husband in the Seventh Day Baptist Cemetery in Lost Creek, West Virginia.

Surname Note

In this Fitz Randolph family, Fitz appears to have been used by all family members in the family where Franklin is a child and where he is a father as their middle name as if part of their surname: In some censuses, the family is recorded using FitzRandolph or Fitz Randolph. The current consensus is therefore to use the surname Fitz Randolph as married name for Mary, his wife. (Need to confirm how Fitz Randolph was used in the Franklin Fitz Randolph family in legal documents and when births were recorded.)
