Biography

Phoebe was born in 1797. She passed away in 1881.

The 1850 census shows the following household in Bennington, VT: Phebe Ripley 49 Hannah Ripley 19 Edward Kelley 21 Katharine Kelley 17 Geo. H. Crawford 1.

I have not been able to find out who the Crawford child is.

The 1850 census lists her place of birth as NY.

Have copies of deeds in Bennington, 1866 & 1880.

Could she be a daughter of Jehiel Fox of Hoosick, born 21 Aug 1762 in CT/NY, died 25 Jul 1823 in Chester NY, wife Jerusha Baldwin? Could she be the daughter named Sophia in several sources? One, in IGI, lists birth as Hoosick, 1797. (Probably NOT. "The Descendants of Jehiel Fox..." at NEHGS lists marriages for all children.)

Note that 1880 census (reel 1341 Page 360A) says both of her parents were born in NY.

Emma Ripley Cornog, in a letter, calls her Phoebe Fay. Was that a typo, or could other records be incorrect? [ancestry.com shows multiple vital record cards for the marriage. One of them looks like "Fay" but the rest say Fox.]

1800 U.S. census, Rensselaer Co., New York town of Petersburgh John FOX 01211-12101 Silas FOX 00110-10010 Either one of them could have been the Father of Phoebe.

1810 U.S. census, Rensselaer Co., New York town of Petersburgh John FOX 00111-00200 Silas Fox 00210-10010 The child that could be Phoebe was gone from the household of Silas, but still present in the household of John FOX.

Colin Kelly: Febe Fox, Baptised 5 Aug 1792, Mother: Febe Ruby Comments: no father named: @18y old Found on Ancestry.com under "New York Births and Baptisms, Schoharie and Mohawk Valleys, 1694-1906". These are church records.
