Obituary Melvin D. “Sonny” Fox, age 73, of Frederick, entered Heaven on Thursday, June 30, 2016, after a very long battle with diabetes and heart and kidney disease.
Born on July 29, 1942, in Frederick, he was the son of the late Eldridge Fox and Grace Blank Fox.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra (Wolfe) Fox; and by his children, Martin Douglas Fox of Norfolk, VA, and Tammy L. Guenthner of Severance, CO; his grandchildren, Jessica Quick, Dale Guenthner, Amanda Guenthner, Jonathan Guenthner and Abigail Guenthner; and his two sisters, Barbara Fox Coulter and Bonnie Fox Neal. He was preceded in death by his brothers, James A. Fox and Gary W. Fox.
Sonny graduated from Frederick High School in 1960. Shortly after graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He spent most of his military duty in Baumholder, Germany, in the 594th Transportation Co. He was honorably discharged in 1963. After returning to the states, he got a job at Village Hardware, then later at Frederick Hardware. Eventually he landed a job at Ingalls Lumber in Middletown, and was there for 13 years. He later worked at CVS and then at Sam’s Club doing demos. Sonny was very artistic in the field of stained glass and subsequently also made beautiful beveled glass mirrors. Sonny was a member of the Gideons Frederick East Camp.
Friends will be received on Sunday, July 3, 2014, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at 10 a.m. at the Victory Christian Center, 7722 Edgewood Church Road, Frederick, MD 21702. Pastor Mike Garland will officiate. The interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick. Serving as pallbearers will be John Balbi and nephews Dwayne Neal, Mike Showe, David Fox, Matt Wolfe and Ben Pittman.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Sonny’s name to Victory Christian Center at the above address or to Frederick East Camp of the Gideon’s International, P.O. Box 3215, Frederick, MD 21705.
