Emma was born in 1824 in the Fox family home, Gonvena House Wadebridge which her grandfather Edward Fox had built in 1790. . She was the daughter of Edward Fox and Johanna Minhinnett.After the sale of the Gonvena estate her parents moved to St Sidwell, Exeter ,Devon. Her parents died in 1844 (Edward) and 1845 ( Johanna). Emma met her husband Joseph Peirce when she was employed as a teacher in a private girls school in Monmouthshire Wales. She married Joseph Peirce on 5 Oct 1852 in Newport, Monmouthshire . They emigrated to the Australian colony of Victoria, were Emma's younger sisters Catherine and Sophia lived. They had the following children; Edwin Fox, Emma Marian Kate, Owen Joseph, Mary Ellen who died in infancy, George Francis died before age 2, William Knox born 16 Oct 1861, Mary Sophia born 1863 died 1864, George Edward b. d. 1865. and Alice Josephine 1866-1948. Emma died in 1897 and was buried in St Kilda Cemetery, Melbourne .
