Biography

Hazel Belle Fox was born in Elliott, Montgomery, Iowa, on 27 Apr 1903. She was the third child of Louis Arthur Fox and Cora Mae Jones.^[1]

According to family lore, she graduated valedictorian from Elliott High School in 1920.

She married Francis Albert Hoyt in Nodaway, Adams, Iowa, on 10 Aug 1921.^[2] Their first child, Merritt, was born in Missouri on 30 Jan 1923, but lived only a little over a year. He died of tuberculous meningitis on 29 Apr 1924 in Council Bluffs.^[3] They had two more children after Merritt: Francis Jr. "Jack" and Cora Lee.^[4][5] Both of these survived to adulthood.

By 1946, Hazel worked as a shipping clerk at the Dehner Boot Company in Omaha, Nebraska.^[6]

Hazel passed away on 13 Jan 1986 in Council Bluffs, and was buried at the Memorial Park Cemetery of that same city.^[7][8]
