William France was born in Warrington, Lancashire, England in 1849. He was the son of Henry France and Mary Caldwell. [1]
In 1871 he was living with his parents and 7 siblings at Orford Street, Warrington. His father was an Iron Turner and William was a Pattern Maker. [2]
On 20 August 1874 William married Elizabeth Drinkwater at the St Mary's Church in Prestwich Lancashire.[3]
In 1881 he was living at 15, Darwen Street, Pendlebury, Salford, Lancashire, with his wife and brother John. He was a Model Maker (engine). [4]
