The Head of a Remarkable Family. Mr. Samuel Francis, an aged and highly respected citizen, of Licking county, whose home was near Black Hand [Black Hand Gorge is on the Licking River in Hanover Township, Licking County], and whose recent death was sincerely mourned, presents a remarkable instance of numerous descendants, himself being one of a large family. Mr. Samuel Francis was the uncle of our well-known and respected citizen, Mr. Hiram Francis. According to our informant, Mr. Samuel Francis was one of twenty-four children, all of the same parents. At his death, he left nine children surviving, forty six grand-children, forty-eight great grand-children and one great-great-grand child, the little son of C. B. Gutridge and wife of Hopewell township. This is a record hard to equal.
