Baptism

John Alexander Francis is born 13/11/1862 and baptized Bloemfontein, Orange River Colony, out going stations on 15/12/1865. He is son of Frederick & Catherine Francis, who reside at Kroonstad, Orange River Colony in 1865.^[1] His death notice MHG F 876 states he was born at Reddersburg in the O.R.C.^[2]. His father Frederick Francis had not yet settled. so the baptism was at Bloemfontein Church, - outlying areas.

Marriage

John Francis is married to Maria Rowing, a spinster from Heilbron, in Wesleyan Church on 04 April 1888, Heilbron, O.R.C. ^[3] They having one child. Irene Valeria Francis. At the time of wedding, he was a shopkeeper at Heilbron. Her brother William James Rowing is witness to this wedding.

Occupation

According to the voters roll for the Orange River Colony, held at Bloemfontein in 1888 he was registered at Vredefort, where he as employed as a clerk in a shop. John owned a shop at Vredefort.^[4] He was a merchant at Winkeldrift, near Vredefort, Orang Free State at the time of his death.

John Francis was granted an Arms Licence, which means he had to comply with those rules and inspections. I attach a copy under images for 1903. ^[5]

Death Notice MHG F876 refers to the death of to John Alexander Francis, who died on 16/6/1910 at Kroonstad, Orange Free State. ^[6]
