His death record has him at age 55 in 1901 and the 1901 Census has him aged 60 so some discrepancy on the date, but not unusual. This gives his birth date from 1841 to 1846 but we do not know where he is from. There is reference in family notes handed down that William (aka Billy) came to Dungarvan from Scotland on a fishing boat - the family business for 2 generations is as fish merchants so this could be true. Evidence for Franklins in Dungarvan ..... any insight on where William (Billy) originates is welcome. :)
1858: William Franklin RC, A Soldier from Waterford, marries Mary Hannigan 6 Feb 1858 st Marys Dungarvan, witnesses Patrick Ryan, Catherine Roche (He may be unrelated …, is this a second marriage with him having a son called William from the first marriage born about 1841?)
1860: Recorded Fact: William (Billy) Franklin married Catherine Meaney in Dungarvan, 23 Sept 1860, witness James Power, Honor Neville (Is he a son of the William above?)
1861: William & Catherine have a child - William Franklin, b. 26 Aug 1861 Dungarvan, Informant: Brigid Franklin (where did she come from? Is that a married name?), This William, later moves to Clonmel and has his family there.
1866: Mary Franklin at age 50 dies in 1866 in Dungarvan, informed by Mary Anne Franklin (Is this the same Mary that was married in 1858?) Who is Mary Anne ? I assume this is her family name.
1873: Mary Anne Franklin marries John Mulligan (a fisherman) in Dungarvan 29 Nov 1873, her age is recorded as 30 so birth about 1843 (possibly the same Mary Anne that reported Mary Franklin's death above)
