Biography

Thomas was born 08 Sep 1759[1] in Bedford County, Virginia in that part of the county that by 1832 had become a part of Campbell County.[1]

Thomas Franklin is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A041846.

He was a private in the Revolutionary War,[2] entering service in August 1776 as a volunteer in the militia of the state of Virginia in a company commanded by Captain William Leftwich, in a regiment commanded by Col. Charles Lynch and served therein for a period of 4-5 months.[1] During this time he marched from Bedford County to the lead mines in western Virginia at Fort Chiswell where he spent the balance of his service term guarding said mines.[1] He later volunteered again for about 3 months in a company commanded by Cpt. John Talbot during which time he performed garrison duty guarding public stores and property.[1]

He married Margaret Campbell on 06 Jul 1779 in Bedford County, Virginia. Lewis Franklin, surety. Consent of James Campbell, father of Margaret. [3]

He next married Letitia on 29 Mar 1796.[1][4]

Thomas died 23 Mar 1841[1][5] and is buried in the Franklin Family Cemetery #637, Campbell County, Virginia.[2]
