Biography

Chesterfield Franklin was born between 1780 and 90[1][2] [3] [4] in Virginia.[5] He died after 1840, probably in Orange County, North Carolina. [4]

He was first married to Temperance "Tempy" Carver on 20 February 1810 in Person County, North Carolina [6] according to the 08 Mar 1810 issue of The Star newspaper:

On the 20th ult. in Person County, Mr. Chesterfield Franklin formerly of Halifax, Virginia to Miss Temperance Carver.[5]

They had the following children:

  1. Theodoric Franklin born about 1812.[7]
  2. Samuel Franklin born about 1814.[8]
  3. John Ambrose Franklin born about 1819.[9]
  4. Mary Franklin born about 1823.[10]
  5. James Franklin.[11]

He later married Rebecca Hooper on 20 September 1822 in Person County, North Carolina. [12] They had the following children:

  1. Zachariah M Franklin born about 1824.[13]
  2. Elizabeth Franklin 1825.[14]
  3. Sarah "Sallie" Francis Franklin born 1827.[15]
  4. Susan Franklin 1829.[16]
  5. William Henry Franklin 1830.[17]
  6. Thomas Francis Franklin 1832.[18]
  7. Stokely Donalson Franklin 1838.[19]

Chesterfield Franklin died after 1840, probably in Orange County, North Carolina. He appeared on the 1840 census living in Orange, North Carolina. [4] His wife Rebecca appeared on the 1850 Census without him, living with Lydia Watson age 93 and Lucy Stagg age 53. [20]
