Biography


On 29 May 1835, Tuscaloosa County, AL he sold to James Cockrell SE1/4 of SE1/4 Section 6 T24 R3E, and the NW1/4 of NW1/4 Section 5 T24 R3E, and the SW1/4 of SW1/4 Section 5 T24 R3E, all total 120 acres more or less.

Josiah appears on the 1844 and 1845 tax lists for Chickasaw County, Mississippi.[1]

Know all men by these presents that I Josiah Franklin of the state of Alabama and of Tuscaloosa County for an in consideration of the sum of two hundred and ninety dollars and forty-nine cents in notes and account to me in hand paid by Samuel Berton of Green County of the second part at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge, have granted, bargained and sold any by these presents to grant, bargain and sell unto the said Samuel Berton his executors, administrators and assigns all the present growing crop of cotton & fifty head of hogs marked one cross & underbit In the left and a split in the right. Also all the corn over one hundred bushels and one stack of fodder and fifty bushels of potatoes, two beds & two steads, household/kitchen furniture and wash pot, eight sides of caster. Above bargained and sold or mentioned or intended so to be to the said Samuel Berton his ??? administrators and assigns forever and I the said Josiah Franklin for myself, my heirs, executors and administrators all & singular ......
