David Heller Franklin born 25 July 1888 near Upper Strasburg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania[1] to David T. Franklin and Mary S. Heller.[2] He was first married 24 Mar 1916 in Orrstown, Franklin County, Pennsylvania to Ruth West.[3] His WWI draft card dated 05 Jun 1917 indicates he was living in Chambersburg with his wife and son and that he was tall and of medium build with grey eyes and brown hair. He was working as a patrolman on the police force.[1]
David and Ruth had the following children:
William D. Franklin born about 1917 in Pennsylvania.[1][4][5][6]

His wife Ruth died sometime ater the birth of youngest son John and before the 1930 census when we find David's widowed mother Mary in his household, no doubt helping to raise the two small children, William and John.[5]
David married his second wife, Fannie Barnes, daughter of William Barnes and Ellen Naugle on 11 Dec 1930 at Gettysburg, Adams County, Pennsylvania.[7] David's WWII draft registration card indicates he & Fannie were living in Upper Strasburg and that he was 6'1" tall, weighing 175 pounds with blue eyes, brown hair and a ruddy complexion.[8]
