Samuel appeared on the census living in North Carolina in 1810, [5] 1820, [6] 1830, [7] 1840 [8] and 1850.[2]
He died in 1857[1] in Burke County, North Carolina,[4] and is buried in Pisgah United Methodist Church Cemetery, Avery County, North Carolina.[1]
Samuel mentions his son David Franklin in his will. [4][9][10][11]

The Will of Samuel Franklin, Burke Co., N.C., 1853
Know all men by these present that I, Samuel Franklin, in the name of God, Amen, do make this my last will and testament.
I do give and bequeath to my son, David Franklin, all my goods, chattel, land and tenaments to him and his heirs forever - and I request that the said David Franklin will pay all my just debts as well as my own debts as also my debts of security for any person for which I am bound to pay. I am induced to give my property to my son David for the good reason that he has (had) to support and take care of his mother and me and has had to do so for some time.
Given under my hand and seal this the 18th day of October, 1853. I appoint David Franklin my executor.
