Biography

Please note, there have been multiple times removing Owen Franklin being linked as the father of this Owen. Please read the will of Owen you are attaching as the father--the Owen named in his will is NOT a Franklin, he is the son of Owen's wife prior to their marriage, surname FLOYD.

Owen Franklin was born between 1760 and 1770.[1][2][3]

In 1800 Owen appears on the census in Chester County, South Carolina with the following household members:

males)-10:3 ; 26-45:1
females)-10:1 ; 10-16:1 ; 26-45:1[3]

By 1810 Owen had migrated west and was living in Madisonville, Hopkins County, Kentucky with the following household members:

males)-10:1 ; 10-16: 2 ; 16-26:2 ; 26-45:1
females)-10:1 ; 26-45:1
no slaves[2]

By 24 Apr 1820, Owen (and probable relative Thomas Franklin) was in Jefferson County, Alabama, when he purchased three parcels of land. Each 80 acre parcel had a purchase date of April 24, 1820 and he took possession of two parcels in March 1837 and the third parcel in September 1839. [4]

By 1830 he has moved to Alabama and appears on the census that year in Jefferson County, Alabama with the following household members:

females)50-60:1
no slaves[1][5]

Know all men by these presents that we Curtis Howton, Elijah B. Lovet and Reuben Robinson are held and firmly bound unto John F Forest Judge of the County Court of Jefferson County Alabama and his successors in Office in the penal sum of Eight hundred Dollars for the true payment of which we bind ourselves our heirs executors and administrators jointly and severally firmly by these presents. Witness our hands and seals this 11th day of January 1840.

The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bound Curtis Howton, has been duly appointed administrator of the estate of Owen Franklin Sr deceased. Now if the said Curtis Howton shall well and truly faithfully discharge all the duties required of him by law as such administrator then the above obligation be void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue. Signed and sealed in open Court

Whereas at a county Court held for said County at the Courthouse in the Town of Ellyton on the 15th day of Feby 1840, Moses Kelly Sheriff of said county was appointed administrator Ex officer of the estate of Owen Franklin Sr, deceased, and said Moses Kelly having given bond and securities and taken the oath required by law as Sheriff: Therefore that the estate of said deceased may be well and truly administered, We by these presents grant and commit to said Moses Kelly Sheriff as aforesaid, the administration of all and singular the goods and chattels, rights and credits whatsoever belonging to said Owen Franklin Sr deceased at the time of his death, hereby requiring said Moses Kelly Sheriff aforesaid, to file in the Clerk's office of said Court within three months from this, a true and full inventory of said goods and chattels, rights and credits, and to render a full and true account of his administration whenever thereto legally required.
Witness John F Forrest Judge of said Court at office this fifteenth day of Feby 1840.
