Thomas was born in 1800 in Ireland, and passed away probably after 1880, possibly in New York. [1] It is unknown who his parents were. According to his 1880 census, his parents were born in Ireland. Thomas probably had a brother named George Franklin, and he probably married Ellen Ryan about 1824 in Tipperary, Ireland. They had the following children: [2]
His last daughter Mary appears to have been born much later than the other children. On her baptism record, she is listed as "illegitimate" but as the daughter of Thomas Franklin & Ellen Ryan. [4]
It is unknown when Thomas's wife died. Thomas immigrated to the United State sometime before 1870. He lived with John Franklin in Clinton, New York in 1870. [5] He appeared to be living with his daughter Mary Devire in 1880 in Clinton, New York.

↑ John Franklin may be the son of Thomas Franklin, although his age don't look correct. Emma Dewire is probably the daughter of his sister Mary DeWire.
