Biography

Benjamin was born about 1780[1][2] to Jehiel Franklin.[3] Jeheil's first wife was probably Emma Johnson, who he married on November 23, 1770. According to the probate records of Jehiel in Ontario County, New York in 1821, Jehiel's second wife's name was Sarah.[4]

Family members state he was a physician.[5]

He married Elizabeth (last name unknown) [6] about 1791 in New York. They had the following children:

  1. Mary M. Franklin, born about 1796 died 1892.[3]
  2. Thomas Franklin[3]
  3. Hannah Franklin[7]
  4. Olive Franklin, born Feb. 15, 1807 in New York. Died July 31, 1875.[3]
  5. John F Franklin[8]
  6. Solomon Samuel "Sol"Franklin, born about 1809[3]
  7. Adelia Ann Franklin, died 1872[3]

His daughter Mary never married. She died in Vigo, Indiana in 1889. [9]

His son Thomas married Anna Reeves, probably in New York. He moved to Vigo, Indiana about 1823. He died in Vigo County, Indiana in 1846. [10]

His daughter Hannah never married. She died in Vigo County, Indiana in 1844.

His daughter Olive married Samuel Hyde in in Vigo, Indiana in Jan 9, 1825, and lived there until about 1844. She died in Illinois July 31, 1875. She lived a noble Christian life and lived to see her children comfortably settled in Life. ,[11]

His son John married Sophia Ewing in Vigo, Indiana in 1832. He died in Vigo, Indiana about 1850.

His son Samuel lived in Vigo, Indiana in 1830. He married Rhoda (Greaves?) about 1831. He lived most of his life near his wife's family in various part of Indiana. In the late 1860s, he moved near his wife's relatives in Wisconsin, and he died there after 1870.

His son Solomon married Mary Border in Ohio in 1829. By 1840, he was living in Vigo, Indiana. He was active in the Methodist church there. He died in Vigo, Indiana in 1892.

His daughter Adelia never married. In the later years of her life, she lived with her brother Solomon. She died in 1872 in Vigo, Indiana. [12]

Benjamin died about 23 October 1830 in Vigo county, Indiana, and was buried in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, S. E. of Terre Haute, Ind. as is his wife Elizabeth, and his sisters, Mary and Adelia, and several of his children: Mary, Thomas, Solomon, and Adelia). [13]
