- "On demand we or either of us promise to pay James Franklin Sr one thousand dollars, conditioned as follows to wit whereas the said James Franklin Sr on account of his age and inability to labor has given to his son Steven Franklin his land upon which he now resides and all his perishable property of any description upon the condition that the said Steven Franklin shall plentifully keep and decently maintain the said James Franklin and Rachel Franklin (his father and mother) as long as they shall live respectively. Now should the said Steven Franklin do so then this obligation is void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue. Given under our hands and seal this 24th July 1841.
