Harley Mack "Hoy" Franks was born on August 8, 1859, in Franklin, Alabama, his father, Alvin, was 23 and his mother, Mary, was 21. He married Mary Ida Coan in 1882. They had eight children in 29 years. He died on May 15, 1936, in his hometown at the age of 76, and was buried there.
