Research Notes

  • John's date of birth is unclear
    • His World War 1 draft registration card shows that he was born 31 Dec 1873[12]
    • The 1900 census said he was born in Jan 1874[1]
    • His headstone shows 1874[6]
    • His death certificate shows 3 Jan 1873[5]
    • The 1880 Census shows he was 6 years old in Jun 1880[10], which implies he was born either 31 Dec 1873 or 3 Jan 1874, not 3 Jan 1873.
  • John and Anna's marriage date is unclear
    • They obtained a marriage license on 28 Apr 1898 in Fayette County, Iowa, but the section of the register showing the marriage date was never filled out. Their parents names were also not shown.[2][3][4]
    • In the 1900 census, ennumerated on 20 Jun 1900 they were shown as having been married 2 years[1]
    • It is likely they were married between 28 Apr and 20 Jun 1898 and nobody ever returned to the courthouse to complete the paperwork after they were married.
