James Fraser was born in 1776 in Kirkhill, Inverness-shire, Scotland.[1] His brother was Daniel, the father of James D B Fraser,[2] who was his nephew.[3]
James Fraser of Pictou, tailor, made his will January 27, 1838. In it he left his estate to his "beloved and affectionate" wife Lavinia, and that after her decease it be devided among his children. He named his wife Lavinia, his son Roderick Fraser, and nephew James D B Fraser as executors.[3]
After his wife's decease, a petiton dated August 14, 1862 named his heirs: Christy Ann the wife of Thomas Muaie of Pictou, Daniel B Fraser of Pictou, Simon Fraser of Pictou, Catherine the wife of Adam McKean of Pictou, Ruth the wife of John Pringle of Kingst[o]n, Canada, Jessie Bell the wife of Hugh J Fraser of Montreal, Canada, and Thomas Fraser who is thought to have been in the southern United States.[4]
James Fraser died March 28, 1838 in Pictou, and is buried in Haliburton Cemetery. The inscription on his gravestone reads:[1]

However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:
