HUGH FRASER, seventh of Struy, who is found guilty on the 6th of September, 1698 along with his father and several others under the designation of "Hugh Fraser, son to Struy," of treasonable practices against the State, sentenced to death, and forfeited in absence the same day. His name also appears in 1711 and 1716. He married Lilias, daughter of John Chisholm, XX. of Chisholm, with issue.
1. Thomas, his heir and successor.
2. David, who married, with issue.
A number of sources indicate that Lillias Chisholm, daughter of John Chisholm, 20th Chisholm of Chisholm was the wife of Hugh Fraser, 7th Laird of Struy. This is simply not possible. Lillias was baptised in 1706, presumably as an infant. Thomas Fraser, 8th of Struy was himself born in 1709. It therefore seems clear that the “Fraser of Struy” which authorities say Lillias married was in fact Thomas and not his father Hugh. Furthermore it is understood that Hugh’s wife and Thomas’ mother was in fact Mary Baillie, presumably a daughter of the Dunain, Dochfour or Lamington family.
