Biography

Lt. Francis fraser was in the 3rd Battalion in New Jersey:Volunteer in 1776, Lieutenant 2/21/77[1]along with future son-in-law John Hatfield who was captain in the 3rd Battalion 4/15/77. "On February 18, 1777, New Jersey militia colonel John Neilson led about 150 militiamen and 50 Pennsylvania riflemen on a surprise pre-dawn raid of Bennett’s Island, located on the Raritan River to the southeast of then British-held New Brunswick. " Lt. Francis Fraser was among captives taken to General Putnam’s headquarters sixteen miles to the south at Princeton[2]

A daughter Mary "Mary Fraser born-, 1779, and died Nov. 2, 1866" married John Hatfield "Aug. 8, 1796, at Parrsboro, N. S., in St. George’s Church, Mary Fraser, dau. of Lt. Francis Fraser whose wife was Miss Henwood of New Jersey". Another daughter Elizabeth married John's brother William Hatfield "William bapt. July 28,1782; m. March 9,1801, Elizabeth Fraser, dau. of Lt. Francis Fraser, b.-, d. Mar. 10,1803."[3]

Research Notes

Genealogical researchers think that he married Diadoma Morris 26 Jan, 1769, Middlesex County, N.J. and had four children by her. Although a daughter Naomi may have been by another wife Mrs Henwood[4]

Frances was born about 1734. He passed away in 1823.
