Biography

Elizabeth "Eliza" Fraser was born about 1796, in Gibraltar (or, possibly, in Ireland). Alternative spellings of her family name are: Prazer and Praser. Another secondary source claims her parents were Edward Whitesmith and Elizabeth.

On 27 Jan 1814, Elizabeth "Eliza" Prazer/Fraser married John Abraham Odlum, a Captain in the Royal African Corps. Together, they had 8 children.

She died in 1836.

Buried: Woodhill Pioneer Cemetery in Brampton. She is buried next to her husband. The headstone reads: To the Memory of Capt. Abraham Odlum who died Sept. 2, 1838 AE 53 y’rs. Also Eliza his wife died June 1, 1836 AE 39 y’rs. Erected by their sons E.J.T. & W. Odlum.[1]

Research Notes

Colonel Sir John Fraser commanded the Royal African Corps, which existed in various iterations between 1800 & 1819, stationed on the Isle of Goree, Senegal West Africa (1801-1808). Later, Fraser served on the Isle of Guernsey (1808-1809). These are two locations similar to John Abraham Odlum, also a soldier in the Royal African Corps. Was Odlum's wife Elizabeth Fraser a relative of John Fraser?
