Simon was born about 1831, likely at West Branch East River (the area now called Marshdale) to Alexander Fraser and Janet McLeod.[1][2]
Simon married Isabelle McLeod about 1859. They had, likely all at their farm at Marshdale:
On May 5, 1856, Alexander Fraser, Simon's father, gave 180 acres of his farm at Marshdale for 5 shillings jointly to his sons Simon and Hugh, Simon having the northern part of it.[3]
Simon died September 17, 1863 aged 32, probably at Marshdale. He is buried in the Marshdale cemetery. His gravestone inscription reads:[4]
...
In memory of
SIMON FRASER
DIED
Sept. 17, 1863
Aged 32 years.
...
His estate was brought to probate ten years later, on February 25, 1874. It states that he died about ten years previous, leaving two infant daughters, of which one is now deceased, and the other, Catherine, is aged thirteen. And that his widow Isabella married Enon McDonald.[5] Later that year, Catherine and Enon McDonald, as guardians to Catherine Fraser, sold the approximate 92 acres Simon had at Marshdale to Roderick and Hugh Fraser.[6][7]
In Ward's Farms and Farmers series, Simon's brothers and father were mentioned in a writeup done on Alexander Fraser[1] and George W. Fraser,[2] sons of Simon's brothers Hugh and John, respectively.
In the Illustrated Historical Atlas of Pictou,[8] Hugh Fraser and Roderick Fraser own most of the land originally granted to their grandfather, Hugh Fraser. Simon's 92 acres were located along the boundary of Hugh and Roderick's farm in this atlas.
