According to the document they'd been married 30 years (actually 42), and six of their nine children were living.[15] In 1910 they were counted on the census in Police Jury Ward 1, St James, Louisiana, United States. According to the census document, they had been married 52 years. It was his second marriage and her first. They'd had nine children, six of whom survived at least until 1910. He was bilingual, but Marie spoke only French. Both could read and write. They owned their home, free of mortgage, and it was a house, not a farm.[16]

He died in St. James Parish in 1911, and was buried at St. Joseph Cemetery and Mausoleum in Paulina, St. James Parish, Louisiana.[17]
