Biography

A migration of Dutch people from New York and Long Island took place in 1696, with the people moving southward into and through New Jersey. The families dropped off here and there making their new homes. In this migration was Rebecca and her eight children and their spouses. Some went as far south as Burlington, NJ, and in 1697 crossed the Delaware River, landing in Bristol, Bensalem Township, Bucks, PA. Rebecca's family chose to settle a little further down river, and bought four farms from the original owner, by deed or grant from William Penn, whose name was Joseph Grawden (who had received a very large tract of 12,000 acres). The four farms adjoined each other & were bordered on the east by the Delaware River, the town of Eddington, Bucks county; and the creek separating Bucks & Philiadelphia counties on the north. The combined acreage of the farms was 757 acres, and the familly chose the middle of the tract for their living settlement.

Since the original Jacob Vandergrift-5 is hopelessly corrupted into a merge of his son Leendert, with a circular merge, I am now simply going to resolve it by detaching all of his child and marriage relationships. That should be okay now, since Rebecca is now attached as wife to the other permanent version of Jacob (23). The appropriate children of Jacob will then attach later to the proper father profile in the subsequent merges of their profiles, when they are ready for that (but not yet).

There was a series of bad merges here, with Rebecca married to her own son Leendert (143), and then with Leendert set as the father of his siblings, in error. I am going to do a series of careful disconnects to repair the tree. Then later the correct father will have to be reattached to any of the disconnected children. I believe that the corrrect father will be the current father of Leendert, currently this one:

I am not concerned about losing the marriage date with the disconnect, because it is preserved in the bio of this profile.
