Biography

Nathaniel was born March 20, 1669. He is the son of John Freeman and Mercy Prence3 (Patience Brewster2, William Brewster1)[1] [2]

His wife was Mary Howland, daughter of Zoeth and Mary Howland of Duxbury[3]. Zoeth Howland was the nephew of Mayflower passenger John Howland, so this is not a second Mayflower line. This marriage isn't confirmed in a formal record, the Freeman genealogy notes that it is a longstanding tradition in both families, and offers the proof that the first name Zoeth appears in the descendants of this couple [1]. It is accepted by the General Society of Mayflower Descendants as factual to some extent, as the Mayflower Families Fifth Generation Descendants note Mary Howland as the mother of each of their children[4]

Their children included[5][6]:

  1. Abigail, born Feb. 22, 1692-3[5]; who married Capt. Samuel Smith, Oct. 9, 1712 (and named a son Zoeth)[1] [4]
  2. Nathaniel, born Feb. 11, 1693-4[5]; who married Hannah Merrick, April 6, 1721 [1] [4]
  3. John, born June 15, 1695[5] who married Thomison Sears on March 19, 1718-19; and then married Elizabeth Merrick, Oct. 26,1761[1] [4]
  4. Mary, born Oct. 3, 1696[5]; who married Josiah Doane, Oct. 13, 1715[1] [4]
  5. Eleazer, born April 23, 1701[5]; m. Rebecca Young, March 31, 1726[1] [4]
  6. Lydia, born Oct. 14, 1703[5]; who married Elisha Freeman, May 7, 1725[1] [4]

Nathaniel Freeman was a judge the court of common pleas, town clerk and selectman[1]

Mary (Howland) Freeman died January 29, 1742/3[5] [1]

Nathaniel Freeman, Esq died January 4 ,1760, in Eastham[1]
