Biography

Abigail was born at Edwards, St.Lawrence County, New York, the ninth child of Thomas Freeman and his wife Phebe Maria (Carr). She was noted in the census returns of 1850 and 1860 as living there with her parents and siblings. On the last day of 1866 she married farmer Cyrus B. Watson at Edwards. (Her sister Emogene had earlier married Walter Kerr Watson, a brother of Cyrus.) They soon moved a short distance to Russell (still in St.Lawrence County) and there their two children were born, daughter Leta L. (Grant) (1871 - 1937) and son Ord Costello (1879 - 1937). At some point they returned to Edwards where daughter Leta was married in 1890. In 1900, Cyrus was living at Edwards with married daughter Leta and her family and Abigail was living at Hartland, Windsor, Vermont, with son Ord, but by 1905 she was back at Edwards with Cyrus, and was recorded in each census there until her death in 1927.

A genealogical tree to be found on 'Family Search' reverses the order of her names (to Sarah Abigail) and also gives her the wrong death date of 1917[1]. The same source also states that she was buried in Riverside Cemetery at Edwards, when in fact she was buried in Fairview Cemetery[2]. The Find A Grave memorial gives her middle initial as 'F' rather than the correct 'S'.
