Biography

Sylvanus Freeman was born June 1800, the son of Capt James Freeman and Betsey Collins of Liverpool, Nova Scotia^[1]

Like his father, Sylvanus was a mariner^[2]

In 1824, he married Rebbecca Hammitt^[1], who may have been the daughter of George Hammitt noted in page 390 and 401 of Volume IV of Simeon Perkins Diary^[3]. Their children included:

1. Mary, born 1828, who married Octavius Payzant^[4], and who died in Gloucester, Mass in 1852^[1]
2. Malachi^[1]. This may be James Malachi, born Oct 2, 1829, a shoemaker who married Mary Eliza Jewett December 31, 1857^{[5] [6]}, and who died in Gloucester, Mass in 1888^[7]. Note his parents names in his marriage certificate.
3. Geurdon, born 1831, who died March 11, 1852^[1]

Capt Sylvanus Freeman died in 1851^[1]. These sources do not note where and when.
