Charles Ernest Freeman was born in Nov 1911 in Williamstown, Victoria, Australia, son of Arthur Joseph Freeman (~1890 - 1955) and Ada Lillian (Dixon) Freeman (1891 - 1972).[1]

Charles died on 7 Jan 1914 in Williamstown aged ~2. The following newspaper, Williamstown Chronicle (Vic. : 1856 - 1954) Saturday 17 January 1914, Page 2, reported the details of his death ... SHOCK AND CONVULSIONS. LITTLE CHILD'S DEATH. A MAGISTERIAL inquiry was held last Saturday morning at the courthouse before Mr T. Lonsdale, J.P., on the body of Charles Freeman, aged two years and ten months, who. had been the victim of a scalding incident. Thomas Watson, engineer, stated that between 1.30 and 2 p m. of the 7th inst. he heard the deceased suddenly scream, and on seeing the cause found that he had fallen into a bucket of hot water in the passage at No 9 James street. He picked him up and gave the little fellow to his grandmother. There was no person near when he fell in. The effects had been so severe that he died the following morning. Ada Lillian Freeman, married woman, stated that she had taken deceased to his grandmother's for the day. He was playing about when he fell in. Although attended by Drs. Esler and Maclean, he had died at 4 a.m. the following morning. Ethel May Dixon, single woman, an aunt of the child, stated that she had filled a bucket with hot water for throwing over the verandah. She had gone to get a broom when the incident occurred. Constable Black stated that he had made special inquiries and found that the death of the deceased was purely due to an accident and that there were no suspicious circumstances. Dr Maclean said that the child had suffered such injury to the abdomen and lower parts through extensive scalds as to bring on shock and convulsions, from which it had died. A finding of accidental death was recorded from causes in accord with the medical testimony.[2]
