John was born in 1816 in South Carolina.[1]

When John was about 19 he married Bridgit Powers in 1835. The couple had 7 children: Ann Freeman, Sarah Freeman, Louisa Freeman, Mahala Caroline Freeman, John W. Freeman, Lewis P. Freeman and Joseph Kilpatrick Freeman.[1]
