Samuel was born about 1688. His father was in Newark in 1687, so he may have been born there.

He married Martha Riggs in Newark. They had the following children: Martha. About 1715 Sarah (1724-1756 ? Timothy 1728

  • Samuel died in October, 1782, was buried in Orange. Married Keziah.
  • Benjamin d 1789 at 77 in Morris.
  • Jedediah, died 1811 at 85, buried in Orange.
  • Abel, d 1803 age 78 in Orange.
  • Hannah b 1713


The following source gives different children, most likely from the second marriage.

Samuel Freeman, supposed to be the issue of the above Stephen, m. Elizabeth Brown, Daughter of John of Newark, who in his will, 1690, mentions her as his daughter. This Samuel was in Newark, 1687. His issue were :

Stephen, b. in Newark, 1696, and d. in Morris County, Oct. 21, 1782, ae 86; II.

(Deacon) Samuel, born 1717, who d. Oct. 21, 1782, and was bu. in Orange; Married Keziah last name unknown. Benjamin, who d. Jan. 17, 1789, at 77 in Morris; Jedidiah, who d. Oct. 1811, ae nearly 86, and was bu. in Orange; and V. Abel who d. April 30, 1803, ae 78 and was bu. in Orange. [1]

These dates are speculative. Martha and Timothy are not mentioned.
