Biography

Ruth was born in 1904 in Alabama, or 1903 in Georgia (death record). She was the daughter of Milton Freeman and Margaret Unknown.

By 1920, Ruth was living with her sister, Addie, and Addie's second husband, Comer Jolly, in Waycross, Ware County, Georgia.[1]

Ruth married John E Camp on 11 Nov 1927 in Florida.[2] In 1930, they were living in Miami, Dade County, Florida. Her brother, Leonard, was living with them. Her husband was working as a painter in a shipyard.[3] By 1935, they had moved to Mannville, Putnam County, Florida, and had 3 children - Martha, John, and Sarah.[4] By 1940, they were back in Miami. John was working as a gardener for a private family.[5]

In 1945, John was living in Jacksonville, while Ruth and the children remained in Miami.[6]

John and Ruth divorced in 1949 in Dade County, Florida.[7]

In the 1950 census Ruth (age 46) was the widowed head of household in Dade, Florida, United States.[8]

She passed away in 1981 in Pinehurst, Moore, North Carolina of cardiac arrest. Her parents were listed as Milton Howard Freeman and Mary Magdaline Brown. Her death certificate listed her occupation as a retired seamstress, and marital status as widow. Ruth had been living in Robbins, Moore, North Carolina prior to her death, apparently with her daughter, Sarah Camp, who was the informant.

Ruth was buried in Pleasant Ridge Christian Church Cemetery in Ramseur, North Carolina.[9][10][11]
