From his granddaughter, Harriet "Pappy was from Alabama. I can't remember if he knew his mother, she died when he was very young. His father was a sheriff (?) and was shot to death while on duty, while Pappy was just a kid. I don't know how he got to Tulsa???? But he did & he met Nanny. How did Nanny get to Tulsa???? Bill Freeman & Caroline Freeman had 6 children, Etta Lillie (Sister), Russell (who was a hobo when he was young and worked for the US Post Office), Bill (who was a lawyer), Doris Ann, Harriet Jane & little Johnny. Johnny died as a child, from sucking a weed into one of his lungs. He and Nanny had to go somewhere up north to a hospital, but he still did not survive. Nanny wrote many letters home about their experiences, one of them described a new invention, which she describe as being like a clothes hanger and had bottles hanging from it. It was the 1st IV she had ever seen."
