He was knighted at Tournay on 25 September 1513 (along with many others) "in the church after the King came from Mass under his banner in the church."[4]

According to WT, the two men were first cousins once removed, their nearest common ancestors being Sir Robert Wingfield and Elizabeth Goushill.
