About 1787or 88, moved to Washington Co. PA where he acquired 400 Acres of land lying 4 mi. SW o Amity and partly within the present Greene Co. PA. He named it "The New Republic"

"Aaron French b 8 Sep 1739 lived at or near New Providence, NJ, as early as 1764, and in Essex Co. until shortly before 1790, when he removed to PA; he died 8/31/1805. It is said that he had two or more brothers, one of whom removed to NY and another "went south". The compiler believes that the latter was Francis of New Gretna in the south of New Jersey; and that Joseph of Raritan Landing, Francis of New Gretna, and Aaron of New Providence, were sons of Joseph (Thomas, Jr., Thomas), of Shrewsbury; however Aaron may have been son or gr. son of John (John) of Middlesex Co., whose descendents unlike those of Richard, and other son of John of Woodbridge, have not been traced."

While "Aaron French and his descendents" accepts the tradition that his parents were Joseph French and Alice Allee some early DNA testing showed that he was from a different line. I therefore have removed them from my private tree. YMMV
