Edward was born in 1747, the son of Thomas French and Jemima Elkinton. Edward acknowledged he had married "out of unity" in 1770 to Mary Wilkins and condemned his actions. He remained in good standing with the Society of Friends until 1779 when he was disowned for refusing to acknowledge wrong-doing, having paid fines in lieu of forbidden military service. He passed away in 1822.[1]

Note: Edward was disowned by Friends after the Revolutionary War for "collusion" and refusal to participate in the investigation by Friends (his plantation was raided by the British) so it is unclear which of his family members remained Friends in good standing.
