Hello

We've made a change in how the tutorials are sent to new members. Instead of weekly messages you can now work at your own pace.

How is it going so far? Have the How-Tos been helpful or left you with questions?

We want to help! Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

Mary ~ WikiMessenger

PS Sometimes links don't work in emails. You can always find a link that works in the public comments on your profile.

You've been a WikiTree member for several weeks now! We hope your profiles are starting to come together and that you've enjoyed getting to know all of us a little better.

You are probably getting a good feel for the collaborative nature of WikiTree by now. Since collaboration isn't always easy, we've put together a few pointers that can make working in this type of environment a little easier: How to be a Successful WikiTreer.

I'm always happy to answer questions!

Just a heads up . . . you added your yDNA test information to your profile but this test will not be connected to paternal-line family members unless the Privacy Level is changed to "Private with a Public Family Tree" or higher.

It's time for your next stop on the guided tour!

This week, we'd like to show you How to Join in the Community. There's no shortage of opportunities to get involved through social media, our forum, and projects.

Be sure to check out the One Name Studies Project to see if anyone has started a project for one of the surnames in your family. Don't see one? Follow the instructions for starting your own!

Please let me know if you have questions. :-) Sometimes links don't work in emails. If that's happened to you, check the public comments on your profile. The links will work from there.

Thanks, WikiMessenger Cindy

Hello there,

You've been here a week now, and we hope you enjoyed your first stop on your guided tour and were able to make good use of it.

On our next stop How to Edit a Profile for tips on making your profiles stand out.

If the link doesn't work in your email, you can find it in the messages on the right hand side of your profile. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Hi Tim,

Congratulations on being Pre-1700 certified! Now it's time to pick a project that best fits the pre-1700 profiles you'll be working on.

Is there a particular time period, location, or topic you're interested in? Do you have some historically-significant ancestors? Look at the list of active projects to see if one fits your needs.

Once you find a project that interests you, visit their project page for more information and to find out how to join. You can also use the Following link to add the project tag to your profile, and you'll be kept up to date on any activity that occurs for that project.

Can't find what you're looking for? Let me know, and I can make some suggestions! :-)

Hi Tim,

Thanks for joining us! I’m David, a WikiTree Mentor. Hope you're enjoying our site.

Did you have fun learning your way around WikiTree yesterday?

I just wanted to check in and see how things are going. Do you have any questions I can answer?

David ~ Wiki Mentor

Hello Tim! My name is Vicky Majewski and I am a WikiTree Mentor. Mentors help new members get started.

WikiTree is a single shared family tree, and when you "volunteer", it means that you are willing to help us grow our tree by adding your own branches.  :)

Your next step is to have a look at our website tutorial. The first page is in Charlotte's message below... or you can just click this link here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:How_to_Start_Climbing_Our_Tree

If you're an adoptee, we have some resources to help you. Click here to contact the Adoption Angels: https://www.wikitree.com/contact/adoption/ You are welcome to add your birth family tree, adopted family tree, or both.. it's up to you!

Above all, don't be afraid to reach out if you get stuck. We want to help!

Welcome

Tim-

You are now a confirmed member, and you can get started adding your family members. As we've said, WikiTree is quite different from other genealogy sites. So, we've put together a guided tour to help you learn how to use it. Your first stop is How to Start Climbing Our Tree.

Tomorrow, you'll hear from a Mentor who will check in to see how you're doing and answer any questions you might have.

Next week, you'll get another message with your next stop on the guided tour.

You can also meet some of our members by joining in the fun with our Question of the Week in the G2G forum: Were any of your ancestors involved in the American Indian Wars?
