Biography
John Charles Fretwell was born on 7 May 1871 in Bolton Upon Dearne, Yorkshire, England to Richard Fretwell and Mary Ann (Moore) Fretwell. His birth was registered in Doncaster, Yorkshire in the second quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Moore.[1]
John Charles Fretwell, son of Richard & Mary Ann, was christened on 8 May 1871 in Bolton upon Dearne.[2]
In 1881 John C Fretwell (age 9, Scholar) lived at Moor Lane in Wath Upon Dearne, Yorkshire with his father Richd (38, Railway Signalman), mother Mary A (40), and four siblings: Thomas (17, Lab), Mary E (13, Scholar), Amy (6), and Fred (0), as well as lodger Henry Gernow (30, Ry Porter).[3]
In 1891 John Chas Fretwell (age 19, Porter on Railway) was a boarder at Guiseley Hill in Roystone, Yorkshire in the household of Joseph Bewers.[4]
John Charles Fretwell married Martha Smith in 1895. The marriage was registered in Rotherham, Yorkshire in the last quarter of the year.[5]
In 1901 John Fretwell (age 29, Mixer) lived in Wath upon Dearne with his wife M (27) and two daughters: B (5) and May (0).[6]
In 1911 John C Fretwell (age 39, Labourer General) lived in Wath upon Dearne with his wife Martha (37) and three children: May (10), Clarence Douglas (5), and Amy (3), as well as visitor J Marney (51, Labourer General) and lodger J Bushell (25, Labourer General).[7] Their other daughter, Beatrice (15), lived with Martha's mother Annie Smith.
In 1939 John C Fretwell, born in 1871, lived at 21 Vicar Road in Wath Upon Dearne with his wife Martha Fretwell, born in 1873.[8]
John C Fretwell passed away in 1946, aged 75 years. His death was registered in Rother Valley, Yorkshire in the second quarter of the year.[9]
