I question the parentage of this Peter Frey. Please, somebody who has an actual document to show that —-this— particular Peter was the child of the Trichtengen Jacobus, share that document with the community. Until then, it makes no sense to assign his parentage to someone born 76 years prior to his existence. This Peter Frey is extensively documented in Lowhill, with his children, baptisms etc. I strongly suspect that we are missing at least one generation between him and Jacobus. Th LDS records are junk for the frey family of this particular location. They have no source documents to connect the Frey’s of Lowhill and any of the dozens of Frey’s in Germany at the time. But some random name matching was used to make assumptions that result in the absurd claim that some “Jacobus” in Germany had a son Peter at the age of 76, and then somehow this Peter ended up in Lowhill PA a short while later. It just doesn’t make se sec and they cite no evidence or document to show that Jacobus was the father of Peter

Because of this, I am once again removing “Jacobus” (born 1688) as father, and replacing it with “Jacob” (details unknown) who is a kind of placeholder for the parent of the Lowhill Frey siblings of the same generation. This “Jacob” would probably have been born in the 1730s and could perhaps be the son or grandson of “Jacobus” from 1688, but it is almost impossible to imagine that it the Jacobus born in 1688 in trichtengen is the father of all these Lowhill Frey siblings

I agree with your decision. I just went though familysearch and can't find any source that would confirm Jacobus (or Jacob, for that matter) as the documented father of Peter 1764. I'll do a quick search on ancestry but doubt I'll find anything to verify his lineage. I'm probably the one that added confusion to this issue as I was importing a gedcom from familysearch that had this info in it.

I went through a phase of trying to make sense of the LDS records, but have come to the conclusion that their (publicly accessible) data is almost impossible to trust. They appear to document en masse every birth and death, and then simply match based on name similarity in the region. Without access to their primary sources, it is dangerous to use any but the most obvious connections. Somehow their system takes no account of the fact that every German in the 18th century had 3 names, and most took the name of the uncle, aunt, cousin, or friend who sponsored their baptism, making massive tangled webs of the same name in the same town that repeats for generations. It really appears that no attempt was ever made to see which one was which. In Lowhill, it is obvious with the name Peter Frey, which is repeated multiple times in each generation for decades, as the various Peters were all named after their father Peter, Uncle Peter, or Sponsor Peter. My system of birthdate probability and baptismal records is also flawed, but I find it more satisfying than the LDS guesses. I still hold out hope in finding an actual concrete document that shows which Freys came from Germany to settle in and around Lowhill...

I found 2 records on ancestry for two Peter Frey's that were confirmed in 1782 at age 18 in Pennsylvania >> Cocalico >> Lutheran >> Muddy Creek Lutheran. One's father was Martin and the other's Jacob: https://www.ancestrylibrary.com/imageviewer/collections/2451/images/42154_329971-00606?treeid=&personid=&rc=&usePUB=true&_phsrc=utt101&_phstart=successSource&pId=2021753655

That's a great find! Unfortunately I no longer have login credentials for their "library edition" and my personal account won't let me see that image. But I'm going to do some digging around the Muddy creek lutheran records and see if I can find an alternate source for the info. I just discovered the gravestones of some of the early Frey members of that congregation : http://freepages.rootsweb.com/~mickey/genealogy/muddycreek/D-F.htm

Frey-3106 and Frey-1644 appear to represent the same person because: This is almost certainly the same person. I have done extensive research to the Frey family in Northampton (now Lehigh) county. It appears that you have found the exact burial reference, and thus Frey-1664 should be updated with that data and the source given. Thanks for locating this detail!! Do you have source for your birth town and exact date? I estimated his birth date from the dates of the birth of his children and marriage, but have so far never found any source anywhere that gives an actual date. I suspect that your LDS FamilySearch source is just estimating, since no source is given, but I would LOVE to be wrong and finally nail down a birth record. Please see the references I have gathered regarding his children, marriage, baptism, and church registers. The marriage reference from Frey-3106 is merely the name of an 18th century county (quite large) that included unionville township where the pastor recorded the marriage.

Frey-2404 and Frey-1644 appear to represent the same person because: same name, exact same spouses on both profiles, fathers in process of merge, mothers in process of merge,
