Arthur Friedenheit was born on 2 April 1887 in New York City. He was the youngest of the fourteen children born to Gerson Friedenheit (1833-1920) and Fannie Winklein (1840-1921). Once, asked if he was related to Ike Friedenheit, he responded "Distantly. Ike was my mother's first child, and I was her fourteenth."[1]
In 1917, Arthur resided at 23 West 96th Street in New York City.[2]
In August 1917 at age thirty, Arthur enlisted as a Seaman 2 Class at the Naval Recruiting Station in East Chester, New York. He served for 166 days on the USS Granite State and USS Utah.[2] Arthur re-enrolled in the United States Navy on 13 February 1918 in New York City. He served as an ensign and attended the Naval Pay Officers School in Washington, D.C. in February and March of that year. He was then transferred to the Naval Overseas Transportation Services in New York City, and served briefly as Supply Officer on the "Jan Van Nasau" and "Hercules" in Puerto Rico before returning to OTS in New York City. He resigned on 6 April 1920.[2]
The New York City Index to Birth Certificates on Ancestry.com has an undated entry for the birth of Alfred Friedenheit that probably corresponds to Arthur's birth. The child is listed as a son of Therson and Fanni Friedenheit; Therson was 53 years old and a merchant.[3] Since Gerson would have been age 53 when Arthur was born and all of Fannie Friedenheit's 14 children have been accounted for, it can be assumed that "Alfred" is the same child as Arthur.
This is a checklist to help you determine if the profile that you are working on is "complete." No profile is ever 100% done, but it is nice to know that the basic foundation of a great profile is laid.
Once you have completed a profile, go to the G2G post (https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1166985) and post the Wiki-ID before starting the next one. The team that gets the most complete profiles of the week will earn the right to have its members add a sticker to their profile. The member that gets the most after four weeks gets a special winner sticker, and can pick a digital surname and style to be made for them (see examples here).
