Biography

1776 Project
Private George Friend served with 3rd Battalion, Philadelphia City Militia, Pennsylvania Militia during the American Revolution.

George was born about 1752. George Friend was 24 in the 1776 Maryland Colonial Census, Elizabeth Parish, Frederick County. George Friend was taxed 1781 in Bethleham, Washington County, PA George Friend was in the 1790 census of Washington County PA 3 males under 16, 1 male over 16 and 5 females. George Frend swore to uphold the Constitution 29 Dec 1794 in Hanover Township, Washington County. He was listed directly before Jacob Zug. George was in the 1800 census of Washington Co. PA, over 45 He was taxed 1806 in Jefferson County, OH He was in the 1820 census Vermillion, Richland County, Ohio.

George married Anna Catherina Zug daughter of Jacob Zug 1727-1804) and Anna Margaretha Raub (1727-1803) Anna was born 14 Jan 1753 in Frederick County, MD and baptized in Old Forks Lutheran Church on 20 Nov 1753. Anna died in Richland County, Ohio 13 Nov 1833. Their 11 children are shown at Jane-joyce Genealogy.

George served in the Revolutionary War under Capt George Mairs Washington Co. Militia.[citation needed] David Sook was in that same unit.
