Biography

Paul J. Froehlich was born 14 October 1905 in Stark, North Dakota. He was the son of John Froehlich. United States Census 1910, provides the following information. Event place: Township 138, Stark, North Dakota, United States. Paul is a single, white, male, age 4, born in North Dakota. Both parents born in Russia. Also in the home are both his parents John (age 27) and Barbara (age 22) and two younger siblings (Daniel age 2 and Ray Freolish age 0) and Katy Frealish, age 62, grandmother (born in Russia 1848). He married Hildur A. Ennest in Washington State. Additional research is need to find marriage record. I haven't found evidence of any children. Paul passed away 20 August 2000 in Spokane, Washington.

His father John Froehlich owns his own farm. Immigrated to United States in 1891. John speaks English and all other family members speak German.

United States Census 1915 provides the following information. The family remains on the farm in Stark County, North Dakota. The total number in family is 8 which includes both parents and six children: Paul, Dan, Rochus, Flora, Wilhelmina, and Dominick. Grandmother Katy Frealish is not listed in the family household.

United States Census 1920 provides the same information of the 1910 census with the addition of two more children Johnny and Frank. Parents and total of 8 children. Paul is a single, white, male, age 14, and he can read and write. Mother tongue of both parents German. It appears that the children also speak German. The children are enrolled in school and maybe speaking English. They live in a large rural, farming community, mostly comprised of families from Russia and speaking German.
