Biography

DNA and other recent genealogical evidence now points towards the conclusion that John Frost was not born in Virginia but rather in Chester County, Pennsylvania, around 1685 to 1690; his family were Quakers and settled the area known as the "Welsh Tract," a large area in southeastern Pennsylvania that Quaker sympathizer and Pennsylvania founder, William Penn, set aside for settlement by Quakers from Wales, where the Society of Friends gained many converts between 1650-1680.[1]

Frost family lore says that the Frosts forebears came from the Parish of Llainhaugel yr. helyge (Radnorshire), Wales. Today it is spelled: Llanfihangel Helygen, Radnorshire. Wales, Great Britain. They were among the first of the Welsh Quakers to emigrate to Pennsylvania in the early 1680s (Wm. Penn founded the colony in 1682). Some say that John's grand-mother, a widow, arrived with 7 sons, including John's father, ca. 1683. John was born around 1690; his exact parents' names are not known.
